A train and logging truck collide in Livermore Falls

LIVERMORE (WGME) -- A train and logging truck collide in Livermore Falls Tuesday afternoon, spilling logs all over a busy road in that area.

The accident occurred on route 17.

The truck is on its side and logs spilled throughout the road.

The driver of the truck survived and is at the hospital.

Another logging truck helped clean up the logs.

The crash happened at 3 pm on Wednesday afternoon; the logging truck was headed up Main Street and was hit by the Pan AM railways train.

CBS 13 spoke to Randy Schmidt who works up the street.

He says he heard a loud screech and crash and when he ran down he saw the driver still in the car.

Schmidt helped get the cab door open and the driver walked away from the crash.

Schmidt says: He (the driver) just said I shouldn't of done that...he was ok.

Other witnesses say it looked like the truck driver saw the flashing warning signs that the train was coming and still tried to pass the tracks.

The investigation is ongoing.
