Purchase of a Cumberland beach is now in the hands of voters
CUMBERLAND (WGME) -- The purchase of a Cumberland beach is now in the hands of voters.
The Cumberland Town Council decided to send the proposed $3 million purchase of beach property to voters in November.
The property includes nearly 14 acres of shoreline and 9 acres of forest.
An access street from Foreside Road to the beach is also part of the deal and the town would also plan on building a parking lot to accommodate about 60 cars.
Funds for the purchase would be bonded over 20 years, and cost $240,000 a year.
