World War II veteran receives his service medals

ROCHESTER, NH (WGME) -- A World War II veteran from New Hampshire received his service medals, just in time for Independence Day.

Norman Sanborn served as a merchant marine from 1945 to 1946.

He's active in the New Hampshire veterans community, and just thought recently to research his own awards.

It turns out he was eligible for quite a few.

Sanborn says this week's weather reminds him of his trip home, We did hit a hurricane coming home.  We had 1200 soldiers on the boat from the all, from the battle of the bulge and we hit a hurricane coming home.  They said they wished they were back on the battle of the bulge!  You ever see 1200 seasick soldiers?"

Sanborn says he knows there aren't that many world war two veterans left, and he's proud to be recognized and share stories with his fellow service members.
