A Purple Heart Medal brings two families together

HARRISON (WGME)- The death of a World War II soldier bring two families together, one from Maine, and another in Florida.

Sandra Skiesgelas found a Purple Heart belonging to her Aunt's first husband, who died in World War II. Skiesgelas decided to try and find this soldier's family and return the medal to them.

"Family means a lot to me and I kept thinking, my husband was in Korea, we've had relatives lost in the war and I thought you know, this could mean an awful lot," Skiesgelas said.

After some research, she tracked down the family in Florida. Nearly eight months later, they finally met and Skiesgelas said, "I feel like I've known them forever."
