Google’s barge is headed to the scrap yard
PORTLAND (WGME) -- It appears Googles plan for a floating office space in Portland is sinking.
A barge off the city's coast is headed for the scrap yard.
Google says the barge was sold to an international company.
The empty containers were supposed to be converted into what Google called an interactive space.
It's unclear why the tech giant abandoned the project.
The barge first docked in Portland Harbor in October and moved to South Portland on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Portland says the city received $400,000 in state reimbursements while the barge docked in Portland Harbor.
