Rumford continues rebuilding after Wednesday’s severe thunderstorms
RUMFORD (WGME) -- Repairs are underway in Rumford where Wednesdays powerful storms washed out several roads and caused destruction throughout the town.
On Hall Hill Road the damage these storms left behind can still be seen and crews were out all day Thursday and will be on scene again Friday.
WGME spoke to one DOT worker and he says looking at storm damage its the worst he's seen in a while.
In total at least half a dozen roads were washed out and damaged by the storms.
Officials say it could be weeks or even months until some of the roads are open again.
DOT crews back on the scene Friday say they'll be working on pumping water out of the roads throughout the day.
But they say they're waiting on the Town of Rumford to insulate the sewer lines so they can bury them again.
There is still limited access to many roads around Rumford but the DOT says the South Rumford Road is back open, however about a quarter mile of that road is down to one lane.
