Controversy in Portland over buffer zone around Planned Parenthood

PORTLAND (WGME) -- A judge hears arguments about Portlands controversial buffer zone around Planned Parenthood.

A Portland ordinance requires protesters to stand 39 feet away from the entrance of Planned Parenthood.

Supporters of the buffer zone argue many Planned Parenthood patients felt harassed by the demonstrators, but protesters feel it is an infringement on freedom of speech.

The US Supreme Court is listening to a similar case in Massachusetts.

In Portland, demonstrators are asking the federal judge to nullify the buffer zone until the Massachusetts lawsuit is over.
