State of the art rock climbing facility breaks ground

PORTLAND (WGME) -- A business that's been a part of the Portland community for more than two decades is closing its doors but will open again in a bigger and better space.

On Tuesday city leaders broke ground for the months-long construction to create a state-of-the-art rock climbing facility called, Evo Rock and Fitness on Warren Avenue.

It will be the biggest facility of its kind in Maine, complete with 42-foot climbing walls, locker rooms, fitness equipment, a yoga studio, and birthday party rooms.

Owner Scott Howard calls it a dream come true, I think itll be great opportunity for people to get involved in climbing in a comfortable spacious facility that has amenities they need.

Evo Rock and Fitness is expected to be open by next January.
