Court papers show gruesome murder of Gardiner man
AUGUSTA (WGME) -- Court paper work shows a gruesome murder of Leroy Smith II, of Gardiner. Smith's son, Leroy Smith III, 26, made his first court appearance Thursday morning at Kennebec Superior Court.
He did not enter a plea. An affidavit obtained by CBS 13 describes a gruesome murder in which Smith III killed his father at the Gardiner apartment they shared. The affidavit states Smith admitted multiple times to murdering his father and that he recorded it all on video and uploaded it to two social media sites. He then transported the body to Richmond, where he buried it in the woods off a dirt road.
In the paperwork, Smith claims he killed his father because Leroy Smith II had sexually assaulted him in the past.
While leaving the courthouse, Smith told the media he was being held as a political prisoner and said he was "God." Smith is being held at the Kennebec County Jail without bail.
Gardiner police are investigating a second case involving Leroy Smith III. During the investigation into the murder, Smith told authorities he has placed explosives in two areas in Gardiner and Richmond. Police are asking the public to be on the lookout and are continuing to search for the devices. Click here for further details.
