South Portland woman killed after struck by Downeaster
SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) - A South Portland woman was killed Saturday evening after she was struck by the Amtrak Downeaster one mile south of the Portland station.
On Sunday morning, Amtrak identified the victim as Nyla J. Howard, 39. Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods says Train 648 hit a trespasser at 6:55 p.m. Saturday.
Woods says at the time of the incident 68 passengers were on the train. No one on the train was hurt she says.
The train involved is the Amtrak Downeaster which travels between Brunswick and Boston's North Station.
At the time of incident the train was heading to Boston's North Station.
Train 698 was delayed, but resumed service around 9:20 p.m. The accident remains under investigation.
