Student brings loaded gun to school to show friend

STRATHAM, N.H. (AP) -- Police in the New Hampshire town of Stratham say a student brought a loaded gun to a middle school to show a friend, prompting the school to go into lockdown until the weapon was found in his locker.  No one was hurt.

Superintendent Mike Morgan said in an email to parents the student didn't make threats and didn't intend to use the gun, which was brought in shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday to the Cooperative Middle School.

Morgan said the student "simply wanted to show a classmate that he had easy access to weapons."

The lockdown lasted about 45 minutes. Police confiscated the gun.

The student's name has not been released. School officials plan to follow disciplinary procedures. Police are considering whether to file charges.
