Lawmakers consider limiting the number of signs on turnpike
AUGUSTA (WGME) -- You could soon see fewer signs along the Maine Turnpike and big players in Maine's tourism industry aren't happy about it.
They voiced those concerns Tuesday at a committee meeting in Augusta.
Lawmakers are considering a bill that changes what type of signs are allowed on the turnpike.
Opponents of the bill say it would force at least 25 signs off the road, heavily impacting tourism in the Augusta area, and other summer destinations.
The committee will debate this bill some more later this week, possibly Wednesday.
