Woman stabbed at Fryeburg business

FRYEBURG (WGME) -- Fryeburg Police are searching for a man who stabbed the owner of a pet grooming business multiple times.

The stabbing happened at "Creature Comforts" on Lovewell Pond Road.  Police say a man walked into the business with a pregnant dog wrapped in a blanket around 11:30 Tuesday morning.

Police say the man told the owner the dog was pregnant and going to give birth.  When she reached for the phone to call a vet, police say the suspect thought she was calling the police.

The victim told police the man said he didn't want to go back to jail, then beat her with a statue and stabbed her with scissors.

Police say the victim was unconscious at one point.  They say the suspect grabbed cash from the purse and a donation jar before fleeing the store.

The suspect is described as a white man in his late 20s or early 30s.  He was wearing a green camo hat and canvas barn coat.  Police say he has severe acne, as well as missing and decaying teeth.

The victim is in stable condition.
