PORTLAND (WGME) -- Interested passengers can start preparing for the new ferry service from Portland to Nova Scotia. Operators of the Nova Star Ferry have initial permission to start the trip this spring.

Nova star cruises' permit allows for the sale of tickets for trips scheduled to begin this spring. The first trip is now scheduled for May 15. That date is pushed back from May 1.

The ferry can carry more than 1,200 passengers. Nova Star Cruises must show proof of liability coverage.
