Fire destroys Bridgton home

BRIDGTON (WGME) -- Fire destroyed home on Cottage Street Wednesday night.

Firefighters say a teenager and his step-dad were snowboarding through town when they saw smoke. The step-dad and his son checked the home and found no one inside.

Firefighters arrived and found flames taking over the second floor of the home. The flames quickly spread into the attic, giving firefighters some trouble.

"It's an old structure," said Bridgton Deputy Chief Todd Perrault. "It's been added on to, remodeled, and it's up in the attic area in the eaves and it's very tough to get to."

Bridgton Fire says Wednesday night's fire was the fourth for the department in the last couple weeks, which the chief says is unusual for them. There are no reports of any injuries.

The fire marshal's office will help determine what started the fire.
