Snow can't stop Valentine's Day deliveries
PORTLAND (WGME) -- Spreading the love on Valentine's Day is a bit tough when there is 9" of snow on the ground.
"Today is a stressful day," said Dan Kennedy, owner of Sawyer & Co. florist on Congress Street in Portland. "But, if it wasn't busy, I'd be more stressed."
Sawyer & Co. has been arranging and delivering hundreds of bouquets Friday. That takes a lot of planning, both for the holiday, and the weather.
"We always plan for the worst," said Kennedy. "We're planning for below zero, wind chill factors, snow, sleet, freezing rain."
This week, that planning was put to the test. But, it didn't stop them.
"I wasn't worried," said Mary House, a delivery driver. "They said it was going to pass through. We've got to get the flowers delivered."
Staff say it could have been a lot worse.
"Yesterday I know we had some drivers that only did four deliveries in two hours," said Kennedy. "That was really a struggle. It would have made the day more difficult. But, we were blessed. We made the best of it. We're moving forward."
Making the best of it is all you can do when it's a holiday all about love...and you love your job.
"It's fabulous!" said House. "You're spreading the love."
