Cape Elizabeth receives grant to help clean polluted brook
CAPE ELIZABETH (WGME) -- The town of Cape Elizabeth is getting more money to clean up a polluted brook. The town now has a more than $182,000 grant from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection to clean up Trout Brook.
The brook is a three mile long stream thats on the states list of urban impaired water bodies. The classification means that Trout Brook doesnt meet state and federal water quality standards. A 2006 study found more than 80 pollution points into the stream, seven of them toxic.
The money will be put into efforts like working with nearby home owners to create buffers to the brook.
