Food pantry on campus
SOUTH PORTLAND (WGME) -- Hundreds of college students in Maine have to make a tough decision each day -- pay for classes or pay for food. Students at Southern Maine Community College don't have to worry about where their next hot meal will come from -- thanks to a food pantry located right on campus. The Captain's Cupboard started two months ago, after the school discovered students were dropping out to get jobs so they would have enough to eat. The pantry is completely run by students through a partnership between the school and Good Shepherd Food Bank. Students keep the shelves and refrigerators stocked with food from the Good Shepherd warehouse in Biddeford.
