Our goal is to provide you with comprehensive medical care focusing on prevention and education. We are committed to meeting your child's immediate and long-term health care needs from birth to age 18.

We know you want the best for your child and this is what we work hard to accomplish. First, we ensure that each childs experience at this office is as enjoyable as possible. We have separate sick and well waiting rooms that offer entertainment for all ages (including adults). Our facilities are child-friendly, easy to access, clean, and spacious. Ample parking at our location in the Fairgrounds Business Park makes bringing children to our office a breeze. Behind the scenes, our friendly and personable staff integrates the use of electronic medical records which expedites results and increases efficiency. When you call our office during normal business hours courteous and professional patient care coordinators will always be there to answer your calls.

Todays lifestyle is hectic. Our same day sick appointment scheduling was implemented to help ease some of the disruption and worry that parents cope with when their little ones arent feeling their best. This office chooses to have sick patients seen within 24 hours in an effort to treat unwanted symptoms and get them feeling better. Our primary focus is your childs health. Were here to serve you!

    Pediatric Associates Health Care Services

    Well Child Care Services

Well Child Care Services are routine preventive health services that allow providers time to evaluate your child's physical, mental and emotional well-being. We encourage parents to discuss concerns or ask questions at these visits. Child development, personal safety, and hygiene are conversations you or your child may wish to talk about at these visits. Routine immunizations and laboratory tests are also administered at this time.

When well child visits are usually scheduled:

Patients 2 years of age and under:

    • 1 week weight check
    • 2 week Physical Exam
    • 2 month Physical Exam
    • 4month Physical Exam
    • 6 month Physical Exam
    • 9 month Physical Exam
    • 12 month Physical Exam
    • 15 month Physical Exam
    • 18 month Physical Exam
    • 2 year Physical Exam

After the age of 2, it is recommended that your child be seen annually for a well-child visit a.k.a. a physical exam. Most insurance companies require that this yearly physical exam be scheduled exactly 365 days from their last physical exam. Please check with your insurance company for your coverage specifics. Since most insurance companies do not cover the cost of sports physicals which are universally required in the U.S. on an annual or seasonal basis for students wishing to participate in sports, Pediatric Associates recommends that your child or adolescent stay up to date on their annual well child visits. These visits serve the same purpose. They help ensure that your athletes can participate safely in a sport.

    Urgent Child Care Services

We understand that urgent health needs occur. Patients do not plan on becoming sick, injured, or developing skin complaints such as rashes. If your child is sick, our office does its best to schedule your child for a same day appointment with his or her preferred provider. In the event that your primary care provider is unavailable, your child's appointment will be scheduled with another available provider. Scheduling an urgent care appointment for an injured child depends heavily upon the severity of the injury. While our office does not specialize in acute care, we are available to evaluate your childs injury and refer them to a specialist whenever necessary. If you know you want to bring your child in for an urgent care visit, we encourage you to call as early in the day as possible, starting at 8 am. Urgent care visits can book up fast, particularly during certain times of the year. Please be prepared to give as much information as possible about your childs illness, injury, or skin complaint when you call to schedule the appointment. Some health concerns take more time to address than others, and we want to be sure to schedule your child appropriately. When your child is seen for his or her urgent care appointment, his or her symptoms will be evaluated and treated promptly.

    Triage Services

Probably the most common question were asked by parents is should we come in? As a parent, it can sometimes be hard to judge the urgency of a medical concern. It can also be hard to know if something is routine or unusual. This is why we have clinical staff available to answer your questions. If you need some advice from a medical professional or youre unsure your childs symptoms warrant an appointment, our Medical Assistants are available to answer your questions. They also have direct access to our team of providers whenever necessary.

    Newborn Care

We are always excited and honored to be a part of your childs birth. When asked to provide newborn care at St. Marys Regional Medical Center and Central Maine Medical Center, you can be rest assured that our pediatricians will monitor your babys health and provide a comprehensive medical exam before you go home. If you do not deliver your child at these hospitals, we will be happy to see your baby in our office after discharge. We like to see all babies when they are a week old.

    Inpatient Hospital Care
Our pediatricians work as a team to provide 24 hour/7 day week pediatric hospital coverage at St. Marys Regional Medical Center and Central Maine Medical Center. Each day, one of our pediatricians is available to provide hospital services. When at the hospital, our pediatricians spend the majority of their time coordinating patient care for hospitalized infants, children, and adolescents that require treatment for a wide range of acute conditions. If youre child requires an inpatient stay at one of these hospitals, Pediatric Associates will be directly involved in their care.

  • Children's Health & Nutrition

    Children

Childrens growth and development is heavily dependent upon the food they eat. The nutritional values in their food sources help their little bodies create the energy they need to move, think, and grow. Provide your child with healthy choices for snacks and meals. Fruits and vegetables are natural sources of vitamins and minerals. Give your children drinks like water and low fat milk. Children should be limited on the amount of sugary beverages they consume. Sugary drinks are empty calories that have no nutritional value. Provide opportunities for your children to be active every day. Walking, running, trips to the park and playing outside when the weather permits are healthy habits that your children will enjoy.

    Screening for Childhood Obesity
Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic in the United States. It affects more than 30 percent of children, making it the most common chronic disease of childhood. This number has more than tripled since 1980. A child is defined as obese if their body mass index-for-age (or BMI-for-age) percentile is greater than 95 percent. A child is defined as overweight if their BMI-for-age percentile is greater than 85 percent and less than 95 percent.

Since there are many risks associated with Childhood Obesity like:

    • Heart disease
    • High cholesterol
    • High blood pressure
    • Diabetes
    • Sleep apnea
    • Cancer
    • Low self-esteemthat can lead to depression

Pediatric Associates has partnered with Dunk the Junk and the Lets Go 5210 Program and hands out Healthy Habit surveys to parents and children age 3 to 18 when checking in for their routine well child visits. These surveys help elicit conversations with your provider about your childs eating and exercise habits. We believe it is vital for the whole family to be involved in the treatment of obesity in children and adolescents. A child depends heavily on their family for support. A weight management program is a key element to treatment and a family support system is fundamental for children to reach their lifestyle goals.

A Sweetser Behavioral Health Specialist and a Sweetser Health Navigator have established offices onsite at Pediatric Associates. They are accessible to meet with patients and parents whenever a Pediatric Associates provider feels it is in the best interest of the patient. Pediatric Associates providers and their staff will initiate a referral to the Sweetser Behavioral Health Specialist and/or the Sweetser Case Manager. These healthcare professionals will then contact the parent and their family with information about their services.
