It's a tradition that started right here in Maine 20 years ago, honoring those who've given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. The Wreaths Across America program is in full swing and it continues their journey to Arlington National Cemetery.
Monday morning, the convoy stopped at Westbrook Middle School for a wreath ceremony, with founders Morrill and Karen Worcester, as well as Maine's first lady Ann LePage. Wreaths Across America has grown into a national initiative. The wreaths will make their way to Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia and 800 other locations across the United States.
Volunteers will place the wreaths on headstones as a tribute. The couple who founded the program say they use live wreaths on purpose. The Wreaths Across America convoy will also stop in Kennebunk, Wells and Auburn before leaving for Arlington. More than more 100,000 Maine-made wreaths will be part of the program.
