SOUTHWEST HARBOR (WGME) -- Maine game wardens rescued a dad, his daughter and her friend who fell in the water while snowmobiling Wednesday night.

Wardens say 43-year-old Eli Strauss, of Mount Desert Island, took his 12-year-old daughter and her friend out snowmobiling Wednesday near Long Pond in Southwest Harbor when they fell into open water.

Wardens say they were all able to make it to the shore, and Strauss left the girls to get help.

At the same time, Strauss' wife had called for help because they hadn't come home.

She told wardens to look at Long Pond, his frequent snowmobiling spot.

Wardens found the two 12-year-olds and started shouting for Strauss.

He eventually shouted back and wardens say they found him right in time, because while Strauss could still talk, he had hypothermia and couldn't walk anymore.

All three were taken to the hospital for hypothermia, but are expected to be okay.

Wardens will go back out to Long Pond Thursday to examine the ice and try to get the snowmobile out of the water.
