AMITY (WGME) -- Two men were seriously injured in northern Maine after hitting a moose Wednesday.

Police say 34-year-old Jake Dehahn and 37-year-old Josh Burgos were driving on Route 1 in Amity around 6 a.m. when a moose suddenly entered the roadway and into their path.

The moose was killed and Dehahn's crumpled car traveled across a field where it came to rest along a wood line, according to WVII.

Dehahn had to be pried from the vehicle with the jaws of life.

Both he and Burgos were then transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

WVII contributed to this report.
