Two killed, four injured during charity ride in Augusta
AUGUSTA (WGME) – Two motorcyclists were killed, and four other people were injured, during a charity ride in Augusta.
The United Bikers of Maine toy run leaves from the Augusta Civic Center every year, and thousands of bikes come out, but Sunday, just as those riders pulled onto the highway, a pick-up truck and a number of bikes collided, ending in tragedy.
State police say it happened around just after noon Sunday, as the group of 3,000 bikes headed to Windsor.
Investigators say the truck and four motorcycles came in contact with each other, but they are still trying to figure out what caused the crash.
58-year-old Jamie Gross of Belmont died at the scene, while 25-year-old Aaron White-Sevigny of Winsdor died at the hospital.
2 other bikers were injured, Trevor Proctor and Tori McGraw.
State police say the driver of the truck and his passenger only had minor injuries.
Officers say they're still trying to figure out what happened.
