Teen arrested after shots fired in Portland
PORTLAND (WGME) -- Portland Police say they've arrested a 17-year-old boy after a fight early Thursday morning on Congress Street.
Police say they got a report of shots fired and when they got to the scene, a teen took off. They chased him.
When the officer was within a few feet of the suspect, the officer says he saw him drawing a handgun from his waistband and heard him say “I have a gun.”
Police say the officer was able to tackle the teen. Both received minor injuries from hitting the ground.
Police say they don't know how many shots were fired, but they suspect at least one.
The teen was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.
He was taken to the Long Creek Youth Development center.
No one was injured.
He didn't point the gun or fire at the officer.
