Special election to be held to replace seat of representative who unexpectedly died
LISBON (WGME) -- A special election will be held in Lisbon Tuesday to replace the seat of a representative who unexpectedly died in September.
The late representative's husband is one of the candidates hoping to fill the vacancy.
Republican Gina Mason was in her first term in the House, representing District 56 when she died two months ago.
Her husband, Rick, says he's thankful for the support his family has received from Lisbon, but he's focused on making a difference for the state.
"We know what it's like to run a business in this state, and to rub two nickels together. And we sign both sides of the paycheck. It's pretty tough. And the state doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. And we just want to get in and serve,” Rick said.
"I mean we're all Mainers. We're all independent and frugal. That seems to set us apart as Mainers more importantly than anything. So we need to work together,” Scott Gaiason (D), District 56 House seat candidate, said.
Gaiason says he's a Vietnam veteran and his experience with the US Army will help him as a representative.
