South Berwick remembers longtime fire chief
SOUTH BERWICK (WGME) -- A community is remembering a fire chief who passed away over the weekend after a battle with cancer.
George Gorman, who was 75, served as the fire chief for South Berwick for 47 years.
Hundreds were expected at his wake Thursday evening.
Much like his four-year battle with cancer, Gorman's five-decade career was a long one due to a devotion to family and community.
Interim fire chief Joe Rouselle said that Chief Gorman submitted his resignation about two months before his passing, but the town refused it.
Rouselle worked with Gorman for 45 years. He says their bond goes beyond the halls in which hundreds will walk tonight.
"We're all family. That's what we're here for. And we wouldn't be here if we didn't enjoy it. As a family,” Rouselle said.
