WESTBROOK (WGME) -- A Westbrook man says he is looking for the community and the police department's help catching a thief.

Adam Farnsworth, a Westbrook resident, says he was attempting to take multiple bags of crushed cans to the local deposit store when he saw something was wrong.

"I noticed that my bags were missing over by the bin. So I decided to check my security camera to see what happened, and I found something," he said.

The footage of the security camera obtained by CBS13 shows a man riding a bike walk up Farnsworth's driveway and steal three bags of recyclable cans. Farnsworth says that the scariest part of the video is that the man knew exactly where to find his recyclable cans.

"He knew right where to go for my bottles, he didn't spend time looking around, he went and grabbed the bottles right from where they were," he said.

He says the estimated worth of the crushed cans is $21 dollars.

"You can't trust people around here to leave things alone," he said.

Westbrook police are now looking into the case and wouldn't comment on the investigation. Farnsworth says he knows the amount of money is small, but says he wants to make an example out of people who steal.

"I want people who know this guy to tell him that they saw him on Facebook and on the news committing this crime. I want them to wake this guy up, and make him realize that he got caught," he said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Westbrook police.
