Protests held after Sen. Collins' tax vote
LEWISTON (WGME) -- The group "Our DREAM Coalition" from Bates College held a small protest at Senator Collins' Lewiston office Monday.
The group is demanding she vote “No” on the proposed spending bill, unless it includes the DREAM Act.
The DREAM Act is a program that allowed immigrants who came here illegally as children to work and go to school without fear of deportation.
President Trump announced in September he would be halting the program.
The group said Monday, along with fighting for the so-called DREAMers, they also want Collins to reconsider her vote on the proposed tax bill.
CBS 13 reached out to Senator Collins’ office for comment on the sit ins but haven't heard back.
Collins voted in favor of the tax bill which passed early Saturday morning after seeing what she called "significant changes," including amendments she proposed.
The House and Senate are expected to reconcile the two versions of the tax bill this week.
