Portland plans to expand public transportation
PORTLAND (WGME) – A major expansion of public transportation is planned for next year.
The Greater Portland Transit District laid out details of the new Transit West project Monday, a plan to expand regional metro service.
A highlight of the project is the new USM U-Pass, an unlimited metro pass given to all University of Southern Maine students, faculty and staff.
Expansion under the plans include a high-speed bus, called "The Husky Line," that will connect Gorham to downtown Portland, and a new bus line running between Westbrook and Maine Mall.
Expanded service is set to start in August 2018.
