Portland man accused of seriously injuring infant daughter

PORTLAND (WGME) – Police say a Portland man is responsible for inflicting serious injuries on his infant daughter that sent her to the hospital.

Police say the alleged assault took place at a Highland Street apartment on July 1. They say 29-year-old Brandon Coleman of Portland was indicted by a Cumberland County grand jury for two counts of aggravated assault and one count of assault on a minor.

Police say on the evening of July 1, Coleman was allegedly caring for his 8-week-old daughter when she suffered a serious medical event and was transported to Maine Medical Center.

Police say she was seriously injured and Coleman is responsible.

Police say the 8-week-old has since been treated for those injuries and is recovering.

Coleman has been taken to the Cumberland County Jail on $10,000 bail.
