Portland begins to decorate for holiday season

PORTLAND (WGME) -- The City of Portland will begin to decorate for the holiday season Thursday.

The city will cut down and put the Monument Square Christmas tree in place Thursday morning.

This year's 40-foot fir tree comes from Westbrook.

The tree was donated to the city by Janice Laflemme.

The tree will be cut down and brought to Monument Square around 9 a.m.

It will then be decorated with more than 5,000 LED lights.

The tree will be lit on Nov. 24 at 5 p.m.
