Onlookers flock to watch fire at Sanford mill
SANFORD (WGME) -- Crowd control has been a very big issue for crews in Sanford Friday night.
Police and fire from multiple departments have posted warnings on social media, as well as in person, asking people to stay back. Hundreds have been making their way down to watch crews battle the flames.
This old mill is a staple in the community.
The flames are still igniting; and another issue is the heat. More than a dozen fire crews have been alternating shifts, they say their gear is very heavy and it's warm out.
Crews are staying hydrated thanks to some Good Samaritans who've brought water as well as other first responders.
Sanford police announced Friday night that the Maine Fire Marshall's Office, the AFT, and the police are investigating the cause of the fire.
