CAMDEN (WGME) – A Midcoast woman had a scary encounter, after finding a python lurking in her garden.

The snake, on the loose for more than a month, is now back home.

Judy Godwin says she was out weeding Tuesday, when she encountered a surprise visitor.

As she was tending to a small bush, she found a 4-foot python.

"You really had to look to see,” Godwin said. “I think I was pulling a weed right there. I don't see it now but I stopped weeding after that. I think I'll have my weeding done from now on."

She quickly called animal control, who were able to wrangle the snake up and find its owner.

Veterinarians say that the ball python was found with minor injuries, and was also a little malnourished, but they say he was well hydrated for being on the lam for over a month.

Godwin says she'll now be taking a second look before pulling any weeds again.

"I'd like to know how it got out and how it got here, because I don't want that experience again and I'm sure no one else would like it either," Godwin said.
