Lincolnville man attempts to hide from police while clutching reflective safety vest

Michael Thompson (Waldo County Sheriff’s Office)

BELFAST (WGME) -- A Lincolnville man was arrested after fleeing the scene of a traffic stop, and what he had in his hand made it easy for police to track him down.

According to the Pen Bay Pilot, 38-year-old Michael Thompson was stopped Monday night for a broken tail light.

Police say he pulled over but took off into a field holding a reflective safety vest. Officers were able to easily track Thompson.

They say he was found under the influence with a bottle of coffee brandy hidden in a nearby ditch. Police also say he was driving a vehicle that did not belong to him.

Thompson was charged with operating under the influence, theft by unauthorized use of property, falsifying physical evidence, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and operating after habitual offender revocation, according to the Pen Bay Pilot.

He’s being held at Two Bridges Regional Jail without bail.
