IDEXX hopes to add 600 jobs in Westbrook
WESTBROOK (WGME) – City leaders in Westbrook are paving the way for one of the area’s largest employers to add even more jobs.
IDEXX is planning a multi-million-dollar expansion.
Over the past 10 years, IDEXX has been expanding in Westbrook, but now with the city's approval they're expected to bring upwards of 600 new jobs over the next few years.
IDEXX has held its roots in Westbrook for more than 30 years.
The city's planning board unanimously approved the company's planned $62 million expansion Tuesday night.
The new building will be built on their current campus off of Eisenhower Drive, an area that's seen a lot of recent growth.
The city says before IDEXX can break ground, the company has to work with Maine DOT to figure out traffic issues, which may include new streetlights and lanes.
The project will allow IDEXX to expand their workforce to more than 3,000 people.
IDEXX says they expect to break ground on this new building this spring.
