Friends in disbelief after 15-year-old girl dies in crash
WINDHAM (WGME) -- Friends of a 15-year-old girl, killed in a car crash Tuesday night, say they still can't believe she's gone.
This, after the car she was in went off the road on a sharp curve.
Wednesday, we're learning more about the crash and the teenage girl who died.
The crash happened at 8:30 Tuesday night. Police say two young women and three teenage girls were coming around a curve on River Road when the driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up crashing into a tree.
Jamie White is the mother of one of the teenage girls who survived the crash, despite suffering several broken bones.
"Both sides of her pelvis, front and back,” White said. “And her lower backbone."
She says her daughter, Kerrianna Girardin, was in the back seat with Sasha Williams and Sasha's younger sister Tyonna Adams.
"Both my daughter and Sasha got ejected from the vehicle," White said.
Thrown from the car, even though her daughter says their seat belts were on. Somehow they survived, but police say Sasha’s sister Tyonna died at the scene.
"She was a really loving, smart student," friend Tatianna Matos said. "She had plans for college and all types of stuff. It's really hard right now. We're all struggling. But we're all trying to smile for her."
Tyonna Adams was a sophomore at Westbrook High School. Wednesday, grief counselors tried to console students.
"It's really awful,” friend Taylor Carlsen said. “I had to leave school today. Everybody at school was so devastated."
Police say 18-year-old Melinda Easter of Raymond was driving. They say their preliminary investigation indicates speed may have been a factor, but it was also raining hard last night.
Jamie White says her daughter Kerrianna remembers the compact car she was in hydroplaning.
"She just remembers that she was on the other side,” White said. “And she said she was hydroplaning and that's the last thing she remembers. She was in the woods when they came to help her."
Right now, the crash remains under investigation. At this point, no charges have been filed.
