Fairpoint lays off dozens of employees in New England
PORTLAND (WGME) -- Dozens of layoffs are expected to take effect today for Fairpoint Communications.
International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers says 62 of its’ members are expected to lose their jobs in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
In total 110 positions were cut, 101 of which were members of IBEW, as well as nine others from a different union.
Fairpoint Communications announced last month plans to cut 153 positions in New England.
“Well, we knew it was coming but we didn't know where exactly where, so people were on pins and needles until the whole process worked itself out,” says Peter Keefe, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
IBEW says the layoffs will affect many different departments within Fairpoint.
