Dad, daughter share story of survival in Western Maine
DENMARK (WGME) – A dad and his young daughter are sharing their story of survival in western Maine.
While out Thursday, their snowmobile ended up submerged in icy water.
This father-daughter outing turned into a terrifying trip for both of them. While enjoying the great outdoors in Denmark, they hit a flooded portion of a trail, their snowmobile quickly sinking.
Her hot pink winter jacket is still wet, and 5-year-old Lucy Glasgow says she's still cold and scared.
“I was freezing,” Lucy Glasgow said.
She was riding with her dad Stephen Thursday on a trail near their home.
He was able to pull himself out, but says they had to walk about a mile before he could get cell phone service and call 911.
“I would carry her, make her walk to try to stay warm just keep moving,” Stephen Glasgow said.
While the snowmobile is still under water, Stephen and Lucy are both now out of the hospital, after showing signs of hypothermia.
They still have one other snowmobile, but they're going back and forth about when they'll get back on.
