Controversy brews as Lewiston, Auburn get closer to possible merger
LEWISTON (WGME) -- Lewiston Mayor Robert MacDonald spoke out against people planning to boycott businesses that support the consolidation.
This comes in response to opposers of the merger on Facebook who have asked for a list of those businesses, but even some opposition leaders say boycotting local businesses would do more harm than good.
"We agree with Mayor MacDonald and we do call on our supporters that you know any kind of boycott is counterproductive to what we're trying to do," Ron Potvin said.
Those who support the merger say the cities will be able to save millions in the long term and want to see the question on the November ballot.
