Coast Guard announces new boating safety campaign
PORTLAND (WGME) – The Coast Guard, along with the National Weather Service, announced the formation of a new recreational boating safety campaign that targets paddle craft, like kayaks.
It's a "beach advisory" designed to warn paddle crafters about the threat of cold water on hot days.
Safety experts say when the temperatures go up, people aren't thinking about how cold the water is.
Above and beyond the warnings, here is one thing that constantly saves lives, life jackets.
The Coast Guard says you should mark your paddle craft with your name and a contact number in case your craft gets loose or there is a real emergency.
That can give searchers an idea where to start searching or if they need to search at all.
