Body of missing 5-year-old boy recovered
DURHAM (WGME) -- Game Wardens say the body of 5-year-old Valerio McFarland has been recovered from the Androscoggin River.
Officials say the body was recovered just before noon Monday in Durham, five miles downstream from where he entered the water in Auburn on April 24.
A Litchfield man kayaking in the water Monday morning found the boy’s body. The man, 43-year-old Christopher Lane, says he was looking for the boy, hoping to bring closure to the McFarland family.
Lane says he located the boy’s body near the Auburn/Durham line.
The Maine Warden Service hopes that the recovery will help provide closure for the McFarland family.
