Blizzard leads to big bills at body shops
PORTLAND (WGME) -- There were dozens of crashes and slide-offs during the storm.
Now, many of those cars are at body shops, waiting to be fixed.
It is nice to the sun back Wednesday, but some people don’t like what they see. CBS 13 has seen several cars come to a body shop in Portland needing repairs, and they say more and more vehicles are likely to come in as the week goes on.
CBS 13 went to the Moody's lot in Portland so we could see some of the damage for ourselves.
CBS 13 has confirmed with various law enforcement agencies at least three dozen crashes and slide offs just in Cumberland County during the storm.
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety estimates the average cost to repair a car after an accident is about $4,000.
A similar study done by the group back in 1972 found that cost was only $400.
They say today's bumpers aren't as tough as they used to be, and cars are more complex and specialized.
Those in the insurance industry say this is also a good reminder to check your policy, make sure you know what's covered, and also know your deductible.
