Auburn elects new mayor after recount
AUBURN (WGME) -- There's a new mayor in Auburn, after a recount.
Jason Levesque beat Adam Lee by just six votes earlier this month, and Tuesday, that margin became wider.
Mayoral Candidate Adam Lee conceded to Candidate Jason Levesque after Lee asked for a recount.
On Election Day, the ballot count had Levesque winning by just six votes, so Lee asked for a recount.
Levesque says he would have done it himself had the tables been turned.
Tuesday, the recount took a little longer than city officials had anticipated, as the city clerk says about 130 ballots had been improperly sorted into state ballot bins after the initial count.
Once they acquired all ballots, the city clerk announced Levesque had in fact won by 12 votes.
"I have offered to Jason; I'll be there to help him however I can,” Lee said. “I'm there to help him and to help Auburn he the best place it can be."
Levesque says he has already started the transition process in high hopes of this outcome. He'll be sworn in as mayor on December 4.
