22-year-old Portland resident to be honored in Rose Parade
PORTLAND (WGME) – At age 22, Andrew Campbell of Portland died from a severe head injury, and his organ donations have saved the lives of four others.
Campbell, among many others, will be honored at the Rose Parade on New Year's Day.
Friends and family celebrated his sacrifice on Saturday.
Patti Campbell, Andrew’s mother, said, “when you have no choice, when you're going to lose your son, you want to do something good with that."
Campbell is among 44 donors that will be honored in the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California on a float with flowers.
Laura Watson, of New England Donor Services, said, “if more people are designating themselves as donors and sharing their decisions to be an organ and tissue donor, than we can save more people."
55-year-old Patrick Sullivan received Patrick Campbell’s heart, saying, "I was really at the end of my rope, and when I got the call that morning, I knew what it was."
Andrew's heart, liver and kidneys were all donated following his death.
