STATEWIDE (WGME) -- has ranked the 20 safest communities in Maine.

According to the FBI Crime Report, fewer than 20 crimes per 1,000 people were reported in Maine in 2015, which, according to Safewise, is roughly 30% less than the national average.

The 20 safest cities in Maine experienced even less criminal activity, according to Safewise.

To identify the 20 safest cities in Maine, Safewise reviewed the 2015 FBI Crime Report statistics and population data.

They eliminated all cities with fewer than 3,000 residents as well as any cities that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI.
