13 on Your Side: Getting results from local contractor

13 On Your Side is getting results for a Portland family frustrated with a local contractor. Not only do they now have all their money back, another contractor came forward to help them out.

News 13's Jon Chrisos has the On Your Side update.

Worn windows, covered in condensation. Back in July, Bill and Sally Blauvelt decided these old windows needed to be replaced. They signed a contract with Darrell Perry who calls his business D and R Handyman. They gave him a check for $600, half of what it was supposed to cost to get 3 new windows.
Perry cashed the check but the Blauvelts never got their windows.

After contractor Warren O'Shea saw our story, he decided to step in and install the windows for free. “It's my way to help people realize there are good contractors out there, responsible contractors“ says O’Shea.

In Maine, contractors aren't licensed or regulated by the state, putting the burden on the homeowner to do their homework. That's why it's important to get everything in writing. But now the Blauvelts have their money back and they're getting their windows.

Perry has turned down our requests for an on camera interview. But he sent the Blauvelts a letter apologizing for what he calls a misunderstanding and says he's not in business to prey on people.13 on Your Side: Getting results from local contractor
