Fort Williams Fees to go to Referendum

Town Councilors in Cape Elizabeth voted 5-2 Monday night to send a measure that would add parking fees at Fort Williams State Park to referendum. The decision on whether to add those fees now lies in the hands of Cape Elizabeth voters. Residents are expected to vote on the measure when the town goes to the polls to vote on a school budget in May or June. As it stands now, the fees would only apply to those parking in the park and not those who simply drive through or walk in. Cape Elizabeth residents previously voted down a similar referendum question in 2007.
